Start a Pet Care Blog: Dipping your toes into the world of blogging!
In these digital times, we as a race are all over the internet – social media, websites, blogs, accounts, influencers – the world now has it all and it is just in it’s infancy!
Pet blogging has emerged as a fun and effective method for pet owners to share their experiences, knowledge, and love for their furry companions.
We only have to jump on any social media platforms to see funny and cute animals, tips on caring for your pets and so on.
This passion we have for our pets shows with the popularity everywhere we look online. People simply love animals, and are often looking for answers to questions, solutions to pet-related issues or recommendations for products like toys, foods etc.
Enter the world of pet care blogging!
When you decide to jump into the world of pet care blogging, it can seem quite daunting at first.
The technology – where to even start with it all?
OK – so there is a learning curve – there is no point in sugar-coating that it will all just be a case of typing away and ‘it will just appear’. But….honestly, the learning curve is akin to learning something like MSword, in my opinion anyway!
I have helped countless people create their own blogs and websites, and for the purpose of a fantastic pet care blog – the steps are quite straight-forward.
And there is a wealth of free support and advice online, Google almost any question related to setting up blogs or websites, and someone, somewhere has answered it!
Starting a pet care blog not only allows you to connect with fellow pet lovers but also offers a platform to educate others about pet ownership, health, and care.
So, where to start?
Ok, you have your idea about what you want to do. What you want to create to showcase the world. But what are the bits and pieces required?
To get started, you need to acquire 3 things.
Get these 3 things, put them together and you have the kit ready to start creating and publishing content on your own pet blog.
These are
- Domain Registration
- Web Hosting
- Website Design
Ok, let’s discuss more about each of these.
WEBSITE DOMAIN
This is the name of your blog – so in our case here it is yourpetbusiness.co.uk. Ebay is ebay.co.uk, Facebook is facebook.com and so on.
You need to purchase your domain. This is straight-forward enough and most domains often cost less than £10 gbp per year.
There are plenty of places to purchase them from online and overall I would say it is much of a muchness as to where you purchase it from .
My go to places are Namecheap.com and 123reg.co.uk.
I have never had any issues with either website and have used them for well over 10 years.
Web Hosting
Think of this as your rent to have your website visible online. Everybody has to pay hosting fees and there is no real way around it.
There are several companies that offer ‘free’ hosting, but it comes with limitations, adverts and general pains that you really don’t need as a pet care blogger anyway! Allow your time to focus on what you want to do, creating your pet blog rather than working around limitaitions and pointless headaches. Trust me, I tried and learnt the hard way!
Web hosting can be fairly cheap and services vary. For the purposes of creating a pet blog I recommend a shared hosting with WordPress one click installation. If this means nothing at all to you, this is absolutely fine.
It just means you can get a template website up pretty quickly and one you can start editing DIY!
Hosting, I recommend 20i hosting. It is the one that I use. They have packages from as little as 10gpg per month that will more than suit the needs for creating a solid pet blog.
Web Design – the actual website that will be visible.
So you have the other pieces, the name and the ability to show your website.
Now you just need a website, right!
I, and many, many others use a system called WordPress.
WordPress can be used for many things and there are literally 1000’s of webistes on the topic, far too much to cover here.
For the purpose of making a pet blog, WordPress is a system that will give us a template for a website. A ‘one click’ installation – as it says on the tin.
Marry up your Domain name, hosting and install WordPress.
WordPress has 1000’s of what they call ‘themes’ – basically a full installation of a ready-made website.
Find a template that suits your needs, install it onto your blog and you are good to go!
Might sound a bit blase? Honestly, getting your pet blog has never been easier.
Give it a go- a few tweaks here and there and your new pet blog would be up and running!
Oh, don’t get me wrong at all….in the world of blogging, this is merely the beginning.
But it is fun! And many people now make a living doing just this.
